My Late Fall Closet Essentials
It’s that time again of year again, the moment to say good bye to the lighter fabrics and brighter hues and bring out the layers, warmer fabrics and moodier colors. For this season, I have turned more to a utilitarian look as I will be in my vegetable garden, cooking a lot but also wanting to feel chic enough to meet a girlfriend for tea or run errands. A couple of these designers are friends and Ojai locals and other brands you may recognize as national and international brands. I have chosen my preferred colors in the below pieces but make them your own by opting for varied color ways. I also try my best to focus on responsible and sustainably focused brands. And pieces which for me are timeless and ever green.
1. STANDARD JUMPSUIT IN FINE WALE CORDUROY
Alex Mill is one of my favorite sustainably focused brands for comfortable every day wear. They recently opened their flagship store In Greenwich Village in NYC. I am a sucker for a jumpsuit. Dress up with a pair kitten of kitten heel boots and a boxy blazer or more every day wear with the clogs or Veja high tops I feature below.
2. JESSE KAMM THE CAMP SHIRT ^ HUSK
Jesse Kamm’s clothing line began in Los Angeles in 2005, with limited small scale production her focus is on durability. This shirt is a perfect layering piece. It is soft, simple and elegant and can be worn with jeans, her sailor pants or a long skirt and a chunky button down sweater for cozy fall chic. Jesse is offering a limited 20% discount off all tops, jackets and coats to Amalgam followers with the CODE: JK/AMALGAM20 through November 7.
On cooler fall mornings, I often need a little extra warmth on my head. My forehead tends to get itchy with some wool beanies. This super soft beanie is cozy, comfy and considered, made from recycled and sustainably sourced materials and I love this color, complementing everything else I have featured in my list.
Ba&sh, a fun company out of France focused on French timeless style, brings you the Chean clog. I adore the 70’s look to these wood clogs with the grommets and the cozy sheep skin interior. Perfect with pants, skirts and dresses (like the Vincent James one below). They are made from responsible leather certified by The Leather Working Group.
Bask founder Gina Zimmerman, is a yoga teacher (think comfort) and a mom (think practical) and appreciates luxurious well made pieces. So it is no wonder she created the Ojai handmade to order versatile and comfortable Bask suit. You can choose from a selection of direct sourced Japanese and Indian fabrics. I have one in the Tan Ikat but crazy about Checked Ikat (shown here). I love to wear mine traveling or out and about. Break up the jacket and pants with your wardrobe staples. Goes well with the Camp Shirt and Chean Clogs. Bask is offering a limited 15% discount to Amalgam followers with the CODE: amalgam15 till November 7.
6. JESSE KAMM SAILOR PANTS ^ OLIVE
Jesse Kamm is know for her high quality, durable, timeless and incredibly flattering pants. See Kammpants on her website for her entire pant collection. These olive green pants have become my fall go-to. I wear them with The Camp Shirt in Husk and my Bell Hand Knit, Caravelli, Cardigan (below) with clogs or sneakers.
7. VEJA V-15 NUBUCK CAMEL DESERT
All Veja sneakers are produced in high standard factories in Brazil, made from 100 % organic cotton, consciously sourced leathers from Brazil and Uruguay as well as innovative materials made from recycled plastic and polyester. Me and my family are big fans not only of their ethos but their varied styles and comfort. These look great with the Alex Mill jumpsuit.
8. OZMA BELL HAND KNIT CARDIGAN, CARAVELLI, FOX
What I love about OZMA is that they are inspired by the freedom of living with less, standing for holding tight to the things they love, and amplifying what matters and editing out what doesn’t. They are known for neutral color palettes and textures inspired by nature and also the use of high quality sustainable fabrics. Pair this oversized, chunky cardigan with a jumpsuit or layer it over your floral dresses and chunky brown boots. Use code ANNA15 at checkout.
9. VINCENT JAMES REVERSIBLE CLIMATE BENEFICIAL MERINO SWEATER DRESS
Vincent James creates chic, timeless and minimal pieces with a regenerative approach. This lightweight yet luxuriously cozy piece can be worn front or backwards (I love the deep V in the back, very sexy), dressed up or down. The cream color is 100% natural and undyed.
Climate beneficial yarn is made from animals grazed to enhance soil health and its ability to capture more carbon from the atmosphere than it emits ultimately helping to reverse the carbon imbalance contributing our climate crisis.
10. ALEX MILL VEST IN WOOL TWEED
Last summer I featured a post of the summer vest. It was back from the 80’s and the vest is still here and now in a fall ,classic wool tweed. Wear with jeans, corduroy, or any pant by Jesse Kamm and layered under a cardigan or man’s blazer and a handkerchief scarf tied around your neck.
